Golden Gills 13 BIWEEKLY CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) runs Nov 8- Jan 31, 2023!
One common thread that ties local farmers to the community they serve, is Community Supported Agriculture shares. For Golden Gills, a CSA subscription is the best way to support the sustainability of our business this winter season. Midwest winters are a predictably difficult time for farmers, with most taking the season off, or focusing on other methods of making money. Those like us who continue to grow indoors through the winter season usually have limited indoor markets to sell at.
Most CSA's require shares to paid up front. We want to make our mushrooms and local food for that matter, more accessible. Bearing that in mind, our CSA order is a single monthly charge, with a biweekly pickup of mushrooms from our farm in Wauconda, IL. Every other week, we’ll put together a sustainably packaged box full of mushrooms with our current varieties, in the size box that you ordered.
If you miss your pickup, your share will be donated to the Wauconda/Island Lake Food Pantry. Some varieties you can expect to receive in a rotating selection are:
-
Oyster (Assorted Blue, Snow, Elm, Black Pearl King Trumpet, Trumpet)
-
Lion's Mane
-
Chestnut
-
Pioppino
-
Nameko
- Other special seasonal offerings, dried mushrooms, and/or powders!

Golden Gills mushrooms are handcrafted in small batches and picked fresh for local distribution. We take pride in producing quality gourmet mushrooms using agricultural and forestry byproducts as our primary growing mediums. Our natural methods of production accelerate decomposition, building soil and cycling nutrients – critical processes for healthy ecosystems. We donate our exhausted substrates as soil amendments to our friends in farming that we work in cooperation with.
Buying Golden Gills mushrooms keeps your dollar local and supports woman-owned local farming and sustainability.
